Japanese novelist Nanao Kawase recently dropped a hilarious bombshell on X (formerly Twitter), sharing how she stepped away from her computer only to return to a screen full of utterly baffling text: "VVVVVVVVVVVVV" and "つつつつzんんんんんんんんん". This mysterious string of gibberish left everyone scratching their heads – until the culprits were revealed to be her two mischievous British Shorthair cats! The post quickly blew up online, sparking a massive wave of relatable "cat-owner woes" among fellow feline fanatics.
Kawase revealed that this "added text" incident was actually a lucky escape. In the past, her furry collaborators had accidentally deleted several pages of her manuscript by stomping all over the keyboard, sending her into a full-blown meltdown. Her urgent advice to other cat-owning creatives? "Always lock your screen before stepping away, or face unimaginable consequences!"
Naturally, the internet exploded with other cat owners sharing their own hilarious "feline co-author" horror stories. One user chimed in, "My cat once 'helped' me search for random stuff, and I ended up on some seriously weird websites!" Another chuckled, "Thanks to my cat's keyboard antics, my predictive text now thinks 'yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy' is a perfectly normal word."
This whole "cats vs. novelist" saga wasn't just laugh-out-loud funny; it sparked a flurry of witty suggestions. One netizen jokingly proposed, "Why not credit the work as 'Co-authored by: Cat'?" Others clamored, "Publish this 'cat-enhanced' version of the novel already!" And in a truly epic move, someone even quipped, "Please bestow the Akutagawa Prize upon our feline overlords!"
Beyond her literary masterpieces, Nanao Kawase's X (Twitter) account is a treasure trove of her daily life with her beloved cats, much to the delight of both her book fans and fellow cat enthusiasts. Her novels, including "The Swindler and the Swindler" (詐欺師と詐欺師) and "Closet File: Tailor Detective Kyosuke Kirigaya" (クローゼットファイル 仕立屋探偵 桐ヶ谷京介), are available at major bookstores and on Amazon. It's clear that whether it's her captivating fiction or her adorable feline antics, this author's work truly resonates with readers!
