Japanese Food Model Maker Crafts a "Pacific Saury Katana" That's So Real, Fans Are Calling It the Ultimate "Swordfish"

Ever wondered about food models? Beyond just making restaurant displays look mouth-watering, these hyper-realistic replicas often spark a different kind of joy for toy collectors and hobbyists, who can't help but want to get their hands on these fascinating creations!

Recently, Japanese food model manufacturer IWASAKI Co., Ltd. (@IWASAKI_SAMPLE) dropped a truly wild creation on X: a custom-made "Pacific Saury Katana." At first glance, you'd swear it was a real Japanese sword! This brilliant piece of creativity has fans absolutely losing it.

This masterpiece was actually crafted by a veteran artisan at their Hiroshima factory for an internal "Food Model Production Contest" back in June 2023. It's not for sale, but it's currently on display at a food model exhibition at Hiroshima ALPARK for everyone to admire.

According to the company, the creator's initial thought was, "What if there was a real Pacific Saury Katana?" They decided to bring this wild idea to life, crafting an ultra-realistic food model that looks exactly like both a Pacific saury and an actual sword.

Take a look at this custom "Pacific Saury Katana": the hilt is the fish's head, and the scabbard is its body. They even nailed intricate details like the tsuba (handguard) and the sageo (cord), showcasing some seriously pro-level craftsmanship. Seriously, you'd swear it was a genuine Japanese sword at first glance!

This instantly reminded many netizens of the "Uo no Maru" (Swordfish Saber) used by Shinken Gold in "Samurai Sentai Shinkenger," a toy version of which Bandai also released. The concept is practically identical, LOL.

Honestly, this level of out-of-the-box thinking is just mind-blowing! Who knew food models could be this much fun? If this ever got turned into an actual toy, it would definitely be a must-have, haha.
