Komeda Coffee's 'Reverse Scam' Strikes Again! X User Helps Move Seats, Staff Offers 'A Few Beans' as Thanks, Delivers a Massive Basket

Originating in Nagoya and with branches now in Taiwan, many of our readers are likely familiar with Komeda Coffee (コメダ珈琲店). Whenever you order a drink, you receive a small packet of Komeda Mamegashi (bean snacks). These bean snacks are practically Komeda's signature item, with many people even buying them specifically to enjoy at home.

Recently, a Japanese X user shared their experience at Komeda Coffee. After helping the staff move from a 4-person table to a 2-person table, the employee stated, 'It's just a little, but please accept this small token of our appreciation...' only to then present a massive amount of beans! The sheer quantity was truly mind-blowing!

The post quickly gained widespread attention on X, accumulating over 130,000 likes in just two days.

While Komeda Coffee's generous meal portions are often jokingly called 'reverse fraud' by Japanese customers, it seems their humility extends even to giving away beans. Despite claiming it was 'just a little,' a whole basket of beans is truly characteristic of Komeda – perhaps this is their unique charm! XD

We've previously reported that when dining at Komeda Coffee in Japan, Komeda Mamegashi can actually be reordered for just 10 JPY. What's more, they can even be used as change! If a meal voucher cannot provide exact change, the beans can be given to customers as a form of compensation.

▼ A netizen once used a 1000 JPY Komeda meal voucher to purchase an item. As the store couldn't provide change, they gave him 40 packets of beans, equivalent to 400 JPY.

Komeda's bean snacks are truly a beloved treat among the Japanese public. While this practice doesn't seem to be available in Taiwan, perhaps on your next visit to Komeda Coffee in Japan, you might consider stocking up on some extra beans to enjoy! XD
