Back in October 2024, when Magic: The Gathering announced its collaboration with Marvel Comics for a crossover set titled "The Secret Lair Drops," it also teased a major future expansion centered on the "Spider-Man" series. Now, Wizards of the Coast has officially unveiled the card art for "Spider-Man" and confirmed its release date.
Building on "The Secret Lair Drops" Marvel collaboration, this marks the third crossover set in the "Universes Beyond" series, following the 2023 "The Lord of the Rings" collection and the upcoming "Final Fantasy" collaboration.
As a "Spider-Verse"-themed set, it naturally showcases a comprehensive roster of characters from its expansive universe. Beyond the iconic Spider-Man, Peter Parker, the collection also features Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy, and other fan-favorites. Villains such as Green Goblin and Venom are also included. Wizards of the Coast has already unveiled six pieces of card art.
As previously noted, this "Spider-Verse" collection serves as an expansion for "The Secret Lair Drops," meaning it will be released as a standard booster set rather than pre-constructed "Commander" decks. Wizards of the Coast Executive Producer Max McCall explained that the expansive nature of the "Spider-Man" universe and its myriad characters necessitated a full series rather than a smaller, limited crossover product.
The "Magic: The Gathering" x "Spider-Man" themed expansion set is slated for official release on September 26, 2025.
