For anime and gaming fans, making a pilgrimage to the real-life locations that inspired their favorite series is the ultimate tribute. It's a chance to connect with a story on a deeper level and see firsthand the places that sparked a creator's imagination. This trend has even become a way for some regions to boost tourism by tapping into fan culture.
But what happens when you combine an anime pilgrimage with cosplay? You get something truly epic. Japanese cosplayer Yoriko (@0kpohmoutgoi0) recently took the internet by storm by cosplaying as Saber (Artoria Pendragon) from Fate/stay night at the legendary site of Glastonbury in the UK—the real-world holy land of King Arthur.

Located in Somerset, England, Glastonbury is a small town steeped in history and inextricably linked to Arthurian legend. It's said to be the location of King Arthur's castle, Merlin's cave, the ancient isle of Avalon, and even the final resting place of the legendary king himself.

Yoriko shared that cosplaying as Saber in this sacred location had always been her dream. She was blessed with surprisingly good weather for her photoshoot. "Although the UK is famous for its rain, we didn't encounter a single drop during our trip. It was a miracle!" she said.
However, she was surprised to find that there wasn't much King Arthur-related merchandise or fanfare in the area. "Most of the locals didn't even know about Glastonbury's connection," she noted. "It's like how Japan has historical sites for figures like Oda Nobunaga or Tokugawa Ieyasu, but not everyone is familiar with them."
Her unique luggage also caused a stir at airport security, where she was stopped multiple times. When her prop sword, Excalibur, was being inspected, she got a lucky break—the security agent happened to be a former cosplayer and let her through! Yoriko confirmed she obtained proper permits from local authorities for the shoot. "I heard that more and more cosplayers are coming here to take pictures, so the local media even came to interview us. This trip was truly a dream come true."

She captured a stunning shot looking out from Glastonbury Tor, a historic hill associated with Avalon.

She also made sure to pay her respects by taking photos at King Arthur's reputed burial site.

Fans were blown away by her dedication and courage, flooding her post with comments calling it a true "Return of the King."

The combination of a "holy land pilgrimage" and cosplay creates a powerful atmosphere, and the stunning English landscape elevates the photos to another level.

Yoriko is a massive Saber fan, and her X account is filled with more incredible cosplay work. Her passion and dedication to travel all the way to Saber's homeland is nothing short of inspiring.
