When most people scroll through social media and stumble upon a stunning piece of art, their first thought is usually, "Wow, that's beautiful!" or "Incredible skill!" But then there are those rare moments when you encounter something so next-level, it goes beyond admiration straight into pure shock. The initial reaction isn't praise, it's a double-take: "Wait, that's a painting?!" or "Is that not a photo?!" Because, let's be real, some artists are just *that* good at capturing reality.

Japanese oil painter Naoya Otani (@aka_nuc) recently dropped a bombshell on the internet, sharing two of his works from 2012 and 2023. Both pieces depict nothing but a plain curtain, and both are, indeed, oil paintings. The catch? Most people can't tell which one is the painting at first glance. It takes a moment for your brain to catch up and realize: both of them are paintings! Zoom in, zoom out, squint all you want – you won't find a single brushstroke or hint of paint. Yet, these are 100% oil paintings.
However, upon closer inspection, you can actually feel the distinct vibes of each piece. The 2012 painting gives off the impression of a dusty, worn fabric, almost like an old bedsheet, with incredibly natural wrinkles and shadows. Fast forward to 2023, and the painting showcases a fabric with a beautiful sheen and luxurious texture – you can practically imagine how soft and smooth it would feel to the touch.

It's mind-boggling how two seemingly simple paintings can evoke so much imagination and sensation. You just can't help but be in awe of the painter's god-tier technique. Seriously, no matter how many times you look, it's still absolutely stunning!
