"Gintama" Actor Ryo Yoshizawa Not Indicted for Drunken Trespassing Incident

Japanese actor Ryo Yoshizawa, known for his roles in popular works such as "Gintama," "Marmalade Boy," and "Reach Beyond the Blue Sky," was referred to prosecutors by the Metropolitan Police Department on suspicion of residential trespassing. However, the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office announced on February 3 that it has decided not to indict him, though specific reasons for the decision were not disclosed.

According to investigations, Yoshizawa mistakenly entered a neighbor's apartment in his Tokyo Minato Ward residence late on December 30, 2024, after returning home under the influence of alcohol. The resident of the apartment reported the incident to the police, who subsequently launched an investigation into alleged residential trespassing. The case was then referred to the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office in late January of this year.

During voluntary questioning by the Metropolitan Police Department, Yoshizawa reportedly stated, "My memory was hazy because I was drunk at the time," and "I just wanted to use the restroom and mistakenly entered the neighbor's room." His talent agency confirmed that Yoshizawa has since moved out of his previous residence and reached a settlement with the neighbor in January.

Despite the decision not to indict, the incident sparked widespread discussion on social media. While some fans expressed support, attributing the event to an accidental mistake due to intoxication, others questioned whether public figures should be held to a higher standard of responsibility for their actions.
