Nintendo has officially pulled back the curtain on its next-generation console, the Nintendo Switch 2, and its specs are blowing expectations out of the water. The new system not only boasts a larger screen but also supports 120fps gameplay and can output up to 4K resolution with HDR in docked mode, seriously leveling up both visual quality and performance.

Bigger Screen, Higher Resolution, and 120fps in Handheld Mode
During the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct presentation, Nintendo showcased the console's key features. One of the most eye-catching upgrades is the 7.9-inch LCD screen, a significant jump from the original Switch's 6.2-inch and the OLED model's 7-inch displays, offering a much more expansive view.

What's more, the Switch 2 supports 1080p resolution and 120fps gameplay in handheld mode, delivering a massive boost in visual clarity and smoothness. It also supports HDR technology for more vibrant and lifelike colors.
In docked mode, the Switch 2 can output at 4K resolution with HDR, a game-changing upgrade for players who prefer gaming on a big-screen TV. This means future Switch titles will be able to deliver visuals that are much closer to today's next-gen consoles, offering far more detailed graphics.
Evolved Joy-Con 2 with Magnetic Design and Mouse Functionality
The Switch 2's Joy-Con 2 controllers are also getting some slick new changes. Unlike the original, the new Joy-Con use a magnetic connection and can be detached via a release button on the back. The side SL and SR buttons have been enlarged for a more comfortable experience when held horizontally. Additionally, both analog sticks are larger than their predecessors, improving control and precision.

Notably, the new Joy-Con introduce mouse control functionality, which could revolutionize how certain games and applications are handled. This positions the Switch 2 as more than just a gaming machine, opening up possibilities for productivity and creative apps.
One-Press Voice Chat with the New C Button
The presentation demonstrated how the new C button allows players to seamlessly connect with friends for voice chat while playing Nintendo Switch 2 games.

From what was shown, the feature's interface looks similar to Discord, letting players see what games their friends are playing and even interact via video using an external camera (sold separately). While full details haven't been revealed, the basic design of this feature is already a massive leap forward from the original Switch's much-criticized voice chat system.
Built-in Mic, 3D Audio, and External Camera Support
The Switch 2 console itself features a built-in microphone with noise-cancellation technology and supports 3D audio, which will enhance in-game voice interactions and soundscapes. This means players might be able to communicate in multiplayer games or use voice commands without needing a separate headset.

Additionally, a new USB port on top of the console can be used to connect an external camera or to charge the system in tabletop mode. This suggests the Switch 2 could support more interactive features in the future, like live streaming, AR applications, or even more convenient video calls.
256GB of Onboard Storage for Easy Access
The Nintendo Switch 2 comes with 256GB of internal storage, a huge increase from the 32GB (standard) and 64GB (OLED) of its predecessors. This is fantastic news for anyone who loves downloading digital games, as it means you can store far more titles and content without constantly worrying about running out of space.
Mark your calendars: the Nintendo Switch 2 officially launches on June 5, 2025!
