Piranha Plant-Themed Switch 2 Camera to Launch Alongside Console, Supports New GameChat and Motion Minigames

Nintendo's next-gen console, the Nintendo Switch 2, is set to officially launch on June 5, 2025. Beyond the console and its games, a steady stream of peripheral accessories is also being revealed. Recently, German retailer Media Markt prematurely unveiled an eye-catching "Piranha Plant-themed Switch 2 Camera," slated to hit shelves simultaneously with the console, immediately grabbing player attention.

This camera is manufactured by renowned accessory maker HORI. While not an official first-party Nintendo accessory, it is officially licensed, with both Switch 2 and Super Mario series branding visible on its packaging.

Priced at €39.99 by Media Markt, this Piranha Plant camera offers a clear price advantage, coming in €20 cheaper than Nintendo's official Switch 2 camera, which is expected to retail for €59.99.

While the Piranha Plant camera's image quality compared to the official version remains unconfirmed, its core functionality mirrors the official model. Both connect via USB-C and can be placed next to your TV, serving as a video camera for the Switch 2. The device will support the brand-new GameChat feature, allowing for in-game face-to-face video calls and even live gameplay sharing, fostering interaction between friends across different games.

The Switch 2 version of "Super Mario Party Jamboree" will be among the first titles to support camera gameplay, with certain minigames requiring players to stand up and engage in full-body motion, reminiscent of PlayStation's classic EyeToy series.

Notably, the GameChat feature will be available for free until March 31, 2026, after which it will be integrated into the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service. For players eager to dive into new interactive gameplay, this fun and practical Piranha Plant camera is undoubtedly a major highlight among the Switch 2's launch accessories.
