Last Saturday (April 13), Tokyo's Telecom Center hosted the "G Cosplay Expo," which drew a massive gathering of Gundam cosplayers. All sorts of Gundam characters and mobile suits were represented, making for an epic sight.
Among the crowd, one cosplayer, Neo (@neo38257950), sparked quite a buzz. He made an incredibly rare choice, picking a mysterious character – an ordinary-looking uncle – leaving many to wonder if this was truly a character from the world of Mobile Suit Gundam!
Turns out, Neo cosplayed the "uncle who sat next to Amuro and casually snatched a child's bread" from Mobile Suit Gundam anime Episode 9. While his screen time was practically non-existent, he's a super famous meme character among Gundam fans, often brought up for a good laugh.
Neo revealed he'd wanted to cosplay this character seven or eight years ago, but after all this time, no one had attempted it. So, he volunteered, saying, "Alright, fine, I'll do it!" Unfortunately, it rained on the day of the event, sending most attendees scurrying indoors. The on-site reaction was a bit subdued, with mostly friends stopping for photos. However, as soon as the photos hit social media, they instantly went viral! Gundam fans raved, "That expression is so real, it's like the uncle himself!" and "His character choice is truly unique!"
Many netizens praised him for perfectly capturing the uncle's sly expression, noting that even for a character who appears for less than 10 seconds, such dedication is essential, LOL.
We've actually featured his past cosplays before, like his rendition of the first Mobile Suit Gundam captain, Paolo Cassius, where he even got photos surrounded by various Char cosplayers, becoming one of the event's highlights. Last year, he even pulled off the "Mysterious Caveman" who appears for just one second in the first opening theme "Anime Ja Nai" from Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ. It's clear that Neo's character choices are truly next-level meticulous!
Of course, Neo's X account is full of other uniquely entertaining cosplay works, so if you're interested, feel free to check them out!
