Whenever Char Aznable from Mobile Suit Gundam comes up, his moniker "The Red Comet" immediately brings to mind his "three times faster" piloting skills, a reputation earned through his iconic "Char's Zaku II" in the series.
Recently, Japanese X (formerly Twitter) has been buzzing with netizens spotting a "red version" of the famous Japanese ice cream, "Black Mont Blanc" (ブラックモンブラン), in convenience stores. This vibrant red, strawberry-flavored new edition is being hailed as "three times tastier than the original" and has even been dubbed "Char's Custom Mont Blanc," instantly sparking a massive trend.

The original poster, "chifuyu," shared a photo on X, exclaiming, "What is this?! A red Black Mont Blanc?! LOL!" That single sentence and picture immediately drew in a flood of netizens, who joined in the playful teasing and admiration.
The "Black Mont Blanc" ice cream has actually been around since 1969, and most people familiar with it hail from Kyushu – it's practically a regional institution! It's even been dubbed "Japan's strongest ice cream," and even streetwear guru Hiroshi Fujiwara is a huge fan. He once collaborated with the brand at his store, the POOL aoyama, drawing in massive crowds.

This strawberry-flavored "Black Mont Blanc" is a limited-edition collaboration between Takeshita Seika and Mobile Suit Gundam. It launched on May 14th and is currently available exclusively at 7-Eleven convenience stores across Japan, with limited stock.

Upon seeing the collaboration, many netizens exclaimed, "Is this a Showa-era retro vibe?" "Is this Photoshopped or a real collab?" "Char Aznable Strawberry Flavor has been born!" and "It looks exactly like a meme!"
Even though this new strawberry version is still called "Black Mont Blanc," the entire ice cream is bright red. Coupled with Char's iconic red imagery, many people are calling it "visual chaos."

Gundam fans also went all-in with the jokes: "This must be a Zeon conspiracy," "Even Takeshita Seika has bowed to Zeon," "This should be called ZIF: Zeon Ice Cream Factory," and "This flavor has to be three times better than the original!"

Bandai certainly knows how to pick its collaborations! This red-and-black mashup instantly became a hot topic. So, if you're in Japan, maybe grab one and see how Char's custom flavor tastes! XD
