The hit football manga "BLUE LOCK," penned by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura, exploded in popularity during the last World Cup thanks to its anime adaptation and stellar character designs. Both the two anime seasons and the theatrical film have garnered immense acclaim.
Today (9/28), official sources dropped a bombshell: "BLUE LOCK" is getting a live-action film adaptation! Fans can mark their calendars for Summer 2026, perfectly timed with the next FIFA World Cup.
This highly anticipated live-action project is being helmed by CREDEUS, the acclaimed team behind successful adaptations like "Kingdom," "Golden Kamuy," and "Kokuhou." Given their impressive track record of delivering high-quality and well-received live-action works, even the most skeptical fans might find their worries eased.
Producer Shinzo Matsuhashi revealed some exciting details: "Our main cast, including the leads, were selected from over 1,000 auditions. We prioritized football experience, appearance, acting prowess, and character. For a year and a half before filming officially began, the actors underwent intensive training with professional footballers, gradually transforming into the unique 'Egoists' from the original story. They pushed each other, bringing incredible passion and fighting spirit to the set." Filming officially kicked off in mid-September.
Original author Muneyuki Kaneshiro also shared his excitement for the live-action film: "The 'live-action BLUELOCK' is truly happening! I'm sure everyone is curious about the cast! But I can guarantee that this unprecedented production team, filled with 'Egoists,' genuinely loves 'BLUELOCK' and is pouring their heart and soul into creating this work! Please look forward to future announcements!"
Illustrator Yusuke Nomura added: "Can you believe 'BLUELOCK' is getting a live-action! Every day, we're having detailed discussions with a production team even more passionate than us 'Egoists,' and the process is incredibly stimulating. I'm personally very excited to see what kind of chemistry will emerge, so please look forward to it!"
In other thrilling news, the official announcement also confirmed that a new "BLUE LOCK" TV anime series is in production! Fans can anticipate more details about the upcoming anime soon.
