The LEGO 72046 "GAME BOY", which just dropped on October 1, 2025, has been a huge hit with LEGO enthusiasts and anyone nostalgic for the good old Game Boy days. Its incredibly faithful design has everyone scrambling to get their hands on one.
But one dedicated modder, known as natalie, decided to take things up a notch: making this LEGO Game Boy actually play games! While it's not entirely finished, she's already managed to get cartridges running, effectively transforming it into a fully functional Game Boy.

She started by referencing original Game Boy circuit diagrams, then custom-built a motherboard and circuits, fitting an LCD screen inside the console. The LEGO buttons, originally just for show, were replaced with 3D-printed, pressure-sensitive parts, allowing those "LEGO buttons" to actually control gameplay.

On her blog, you can see the modded LEGO Game Boy flawlessly running classic GB titles like "Tetris" and "Pokémon," with controls working without a hitch.

This modded LEGO Game Boy is still a work in progress, but natalie has promised to release the full version once it's complete. For now, you can check out the video on her blog. Gamers are already buzzing with anticipation to see what this "model" looks like when it truly becomes a playable console!
