"Breaking Bad" Star Aaron Paul Fulfills Gaming Dream, Says He Always Wanted to Create Games: "I Grew Up Playing Them"

Hollywood actor Aaron Paul, widely known for his roles in "Breaking Bad" and "Westworld," recently spoke about his first major video game project: AdHoc Studio's narrative-driven interactive title "Dispatch." He revealed that this wasn't merely an acting gig but a lifelong dream he'd harbored since childhood.

"I've always wanted to be involved in games," Paul told Polygon, reminiscing about his early years. "I grew up in arcades, then got hooked on console games, especially 'GoldenEye 007.' I replayed that almost every day; I thought it was the best game ever." He also recalled his obsession with "Halo" with friends after moving to Los Angeles, and how the terrifying atmosphere of the original "Resident Evil" left him "shaking."

This profound passion for gaming was a key reason he agreed to star in "Dispatch." The game blends superhero satire with workplace drama, with Paul portraying former hero "Mecha Man" Robert Robertson, now reduced to an office worker for "Superhero Dispatch."

"This project was fantastic; the script, the characters, and the overall vibe immediately captivated me," he stated. "It's funny, action-packed, and surprisingly emotionally deep."

Paul confessed he's always drawn to "scarred characters," so portraying a hero battling trauma in "Dispatch" resonated deeply with him.

"I'm always drawn to people who are struggling, trying to confront their past wounds and move forward," he explained.

He also revealed that this wasn't a casual "celebrity cameo" recording session but a two-year-long project. However, for Paul, games, like films and TV series, are simply different mediums for telling emotionally compelling stories.

"As long as the script is good, whether it's a TV series, animation, or a game, I'm willing to commit," he affirmed.
