Shuzo Oshimi's hit manga, "The Flowers of Evil," serialized by Kodansha, is officially getting a live-action TV drama adaptation! Set to premiere on TV Tokyo in April 2026, the series will star actor Fuku Suzuki and artist ano, with exclusive streaming across Asia on Disney+.
"The Flowers of Evil" originally ran in Kodansha's "Bessatsu Shonen Magazine" from October 2009 to 2014, concluding with 11 tankobon volumes.
The story follows the timid protagonist, Takao Kasuga, who's obsessed with Charles Baudelaire's poetry collection, "Les Fleurs du Mal" (The Flowers of Evil). One day, by a twist of fate, he impulsively steals the gym clothes of his crush, Nanako Saeki. Unfortunately for him, his classmate Sawa Nakamura witnesses the entire incident. Nakamura blackmails Kasuga into a twisted "contract," forcing him into increasingly bizarre acts. Yet, paradoxically, her actions also bring Kasuga and Saeki closer, igniting a bizarre and tangled relationship between the three.
This isn't the first live-action adaptation for "The Flowers of Evil"; a film version starring Kentaro Ito, Tina Tamashiro, and Shiori Akita was released in 2019 to decent reviews.
Fuku Suzuki, one of the lead actors, is also known for his hosting gigs in addition to his acting career. He commented, "I'm incredibly happy to be part of a work that stirs up so many youthful memories for countless people. Kasuga undergoes immense emotional changes throughout the story, and I'm really looking forward to portraying that."
The other lead, ano, boasts massive popularity among younger audiences, excelling in music, acting, and hosting. This marks her first time starring in a TV drama. ano shared, "I never imagined I'd get to play Nakamura. I truly cherish this opportunity and will give my all during filming. I hope everyone tunes in!"
The series is confirmed to kick off in April 2026, with Disney+ dropping each episode concurrently with its TV broadcast. More cast announcements are on the way, so fans of the actors or the original manga should keep an eye out for official updates!
