As students share their graduation photos and prepare for their next big adventure, manga artist Takehiko Inoue dropped a special illustration on March 11th. To congratulate the grads, he drew none other than Ryōnan High's third-year seniors, Jun Uozumi and Ryoji Ikegami, from his iconic series "Slam Dunk." Inoue-sensei rarely sketches these two, so naturally, fans went wild!
For "Slam Dunk" fans, Ryōnan High's third-years Jun Uozumi and Ryoji Ikegami are household names. Jun Uozumi was a top-tier center in the prefectural tournament, often clashing with Shōhoku's Takenori Akagi, and at 202 cm, he was the tallest player in the prefecture. Ryoji Ikegami, while not a starter, was Ryōnan's defensive ace, frequently tasked by Coach Taoka with shutting down opposing key players. As a third-year alongside Uozumi, Ikegami's calm demeanor was a stark contrast to Uozumi's fiery passion.
But this time, Inoue-sensei's graduation-themed Uozumi and Ikegami look a bit different from their manga counterparts. Uozumi appears slightly younger, shedding his intimidating on-court aura. Ikegami, while still sporting his slicked-back hair, now rocks longer locks and a beard, giving him a totally fresh vibe.
Fans were particularly surprised by Ikegami's transformation, marveling at how Inoue-sensei reimagined his usually composed character with such a dashing, free-spirited look!
Of course, some netizens jokingly pointed out that the duo now looks even more mature, even older! They quipped that Shinichi Maki from Kaijō High, often teased as "middle-aged" in the series, could now join their ranks.
