While many films boast a single credited screenwriter, the reality of Hollywood often involves multiple contributors. Due to the limited scope of their involvement—perhaps only rewriting specific sections—and the strict rules of the Writers Guild, some screenwriters may not receive on-screen credit. These uncredited contributors are frequently referred to within the industry as "script doctors." Paul Thomas Anderson, the acclaimed director who recently earned an Oscar for "Licorice Pizza" (pictured right below), is known to take on such assignments, and he has reportedly been tasked with a similar role once again.

Veteran entertainment journalist Jeff Sneider recently revealed on his blog, The InSneider, that Anderson has been enlisted by "Licorice Pizza" star Leonardo DiCaprio to perform minor script rewrites for DiCaprio's upcoming Martin Scorsese-directed feature, "What Happens At Night." The film's previous screenwriter was Patrick Marber, known for his work on "Notes on a Scandal."
This isn't Anderson's first time doctoring a Scorsese project. He previously contributed to the rewrites for Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon," and it's widely rumored that the version audiences ultimately saw was almost entirely shaped by Anderson, differing significantly from its initial draft.

"What Happens At Night" has already commenced principal photography, with the first official still released just days ago (pictured above). The film is described as a horror feature, boasting an impressive ensemble cast including DiCaprio, Patricia Clarkson, Jared Harris, Mads Mikkelsen, and Jennifer Lawrence.
"What Happens At Night" adapts Peter Cameron's 2020 ghost story novel of the same name. The plot centers on an unnamed American couple who travel to an unfamiliar European city to adopt a child, checking into a sprawling, eerie hotel. The establishment is home to a host of enigmatic characters, from an aging singer and a philandering businessman to a mysterious and charismatic faith healer. Beneath the surface, both the hotel and its eclectic guests seem to harbor untold secrets. As the couple's adoption efforts face increasing obstacles, they find themselves growing more and more uncertain about their marriage, their identities, and their lives.
