Chris Evans Rumored to Return for "Avengers: Secret Wars," Not Just "Avengers 5" — Original Captain America Set for Comeback

Major news is circulating from the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Chris Evans, who famously portrayed Captain America Steve Rogers, is reportedly set to return for "Avengers: Secret Wars," sparking immense excitement among fans for the comeback of the iconic original Avenger.

Since his debut in 2011's "Captain America: The First Avenger," Evans became a pivotal character in the MCU, starring in multiple "Avengers" films and solo outings before officially bidding farewell to the role in 2019's "Avengers: Endgame."

However, with the recent reveal of the "Avengers: Doomsday" trailer, Steve Rogers' story appears far from over. The trailer hints at his return to the past to live a full life with Peggy Carter, even raising children. Yet, rumors suggest this timeline-altering action could trigger the collapse of the multiverse and "Incursions," positioning Steve as a key figure. Speculation is rife that he might even become a prime target for the villainous Doctor Doom, Victor Von Doom.

According to reports, Chris Evans recently told fans during an interaction, "I'm starting my next one in a few months." This statement is widely interpreted as confirmation of his return for "Avengers: Secret Wars." Some fans are even hoping he might portray a different variant, including the "Captain Hydra" version from the comics, adding more intriguing possibilities to the storyline.

Regarding Captain America's potential return, director Anthony Russo commented, "We have a special affection for this character, and we can't imagine this story without him as a central figure." Joe Russo added that the narrative for "Avengers: Doomsday" has already begun to unfold, stating, "Every trailer is part of the story; this is a much larger narrative plan."

Furthermore, scooper Daniel Richtman indicated that characters with significant roles in "Avengers: Doomsday" might see their importance adjusted in "Secret Wars," suggesting the two films will center on different characters to further expand the multiverse saga.

"Avengers: Doomsday" is currently slated for release on December 18, 2026, with "Avengers: Secret Wars" set to follow on December 17, 2027.
