DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn recently responded to another fan on Threads, offering fresh clarification on the DCU’s eight-to-10-year roadmap. Gunn confirmed that Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman remain the studio’s key “diamond characters,” even though the latter two have yet to make their official debuts.

Gunn pointed fans back to comments he made in January 2023, explaining: “I said some stories would be standalone like the Guardians movies were (which is what Clayface is) and some stories would have part of a larger narrative structure, which is what the Superman Saga is. All that said, each piece of the larger story should work on its own with or without having to see everything else.”
He emphasized that the frequently cited “eight-to-10-year roadmap” covers “DC as a whole.” That includes focusing on “diamond characters” such as Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, while developing smaller characters who could become diamonds themselves, including Krypto, Green Lantern John Stewart and Peacemaker.

Gunn added that the plan also addresses how DC Studios will foster filmmaker freedom, embrace different tones and ratings, and draw inspiration from Star Wars, George R. R. Martin and more.
“It’s exciting seeing things start to come together, and all that makes me even more excited for what we have in store for everyone in Man of Tomorrow,” he said.
So far, Superman is the only one of the three heroes to headline a core DCU project. Batman made only a brief silhouette appearance in the animated series “Creature Commandos,” while Wonder Woman has yet to appear.
