Last Friday, Marvel Studios announced at CinemaCon that they would not only re-release "Avengers: Endgame" on September 25th this year, but also screen an "extended cut." At the time, they did not specify whether the new footage consisted of previously deleted scenes or newly shot material intended to set up the next installment, "Avengers: Doomsday." However, the directing duo, the Russo Brothers, recently confirmed the latter during an interview with Deadline at the Sands Film Festival.

Joe Russo explained that re-releasing the film was very important, and that they would include footage related to "Doomsday" in the re-release. He stated that this was a great opportunity to uniquely bridge the gap between "Endgame" and "Doomsday." He added that the immense success of "Endgame" made the re-release possible, as re-releases are not always feasible due to funding requirements. Russo emphasized that connecting "Doomsday" with "Endgame" and the beloved characters they had worked with for years, continuing their adventures, and enriching the "Doomsday" narrative, was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
