Get ready for a blast from the past! Shotaro Ishinomori's pioneering sci-fi manga, Cyborg 009, is getting a long-awaited new anime series, Cyborg 009 Nemesis, which was first announced last July to the delight of long-time fans.
Today, the official team dropped a new key visual and locked in a release date: the series will hit Prime Video and other Japanese streaming platforms on July 19, 2026. In true binge-watching fashion, all three episodes will be released at once.
First serialized in July 1964, Cyborg 009 is a cornerstone of the genre, standing alongside Kamen Rider as one of Ishinomori's most iconic works. The story follows the adventures and daily lives of nine cyborg warriors, each possessing unique abilities. Tragically, Ishinomori passed away before completing the final arc, leaving the original manga unfinished.
Despite this, the franchise has been adapted into anime multiple times over the decades, including two series in the Showa era and another in the Heisei era, cementing its status as an enduring classic.
The story of Cyborg 009 Nemesis picks up after more than half a century of the 00 Number Cyborgs protecting humanity from countless threats to world peace.
Now, a new group of nine cyborgs called "Nemesis" has emerged. They believe the old guard's methods are outdated and can no longer lead the world to true peace. Led by the gravity-manipulating N009/Graviton, what ideals does Nemesis truly pursue? Can the original Cyborg 009 team stand against this new generation? This is a brand-new story pitting 9 old-school cyborgs vs. 9 next-gen cyborgs.
As officially announced, all three episodes of Cyborg 009 Nemesis will be released on July 19, 2026.
The announced streaming platforms include ABEMA Premium, d Anime Store, U-NEXT, Anime Houdai, Prime Video, DMM TV, FOD, Hulu, and Bandai Channel. While most of these are Japan-local, it's expected that Prime Video will handle the international release.
The voice cast and new character designs have also been previously revealed.
