Starting from its roots as a virtual pet device, the Digimon series has spawned numerous anime and games, remaining a beloved and nostalgic IP for fans even after nearly 30 years.
On August 1st, the official Digimon account on X dropped a bombshell: a brand new original anime project is officially underway! This completely new animation is set to hit screens in 2027.
This newly announced anime is part of a massive commemorative project leading up to Digimon's 30th anniversary in 2027, officially kicking off the "Digimon 30th Anniversary Project."
While details like the title, plot, and characters are still under wraps, it's highly anticipated to take over from the currently airing Digimon BeatBreak.
But wait, there's more! The official team also dropped a ton of other 30th-anniversary events. They've revealed the results of the "Global Fan Vote for the Best Episodes from Digimon's Four Classic Anime Series," which previously focused on the early TV anime: Digimon Adventure, Digimon Adventure 02, Digimon Tamers, and Digimon Frontier. And get this: starting October 4th, fans can relive these timeless Digimon sagas every Sunday at 9 AM on Japan's Fuji TV!
The official team also created a special promotional video based on the poll results, titled "Our Chosen Best Adventure" (僕らが選んだベストアドベンチャー).
And for an extra dose of nostalgia, they've announced a brand new opening theme song! It will be performed by Ayumi Miyazaki & Takayoshi Tanimoto, with lyrics by Hiroshi Yamada and composition by Michihiko Ohta – bringing together the legendary music talents who have shaped Digimon's sound for decades.
