Netflix to Drop Full Season of "Fool's Night" Anime in Late November, Second Teaser Trailer Revealed

Yasumi Yasuda's manga, "Fool's Night" (フールナイト), which was announced for an anime adaptation in June, is being produced by a first-time collaboration between two major Japanese animation powerhouses: Sunrise (Bandai Namco Filmworks) and SHAFT.

Today (August 21st), during Netflix's special event at Anime NYC 2026 in the US, the second teaser trailer was unveiled. The event also announced that Junya Enoki, Aya Endo, and Kiyomitsu Mizuuchi are joining the voice cast, with the entire season confirmed for a global exclusive full-season drop on November 26th.

"Fool's Night" has been serialized in Shogakukan's "Big Comic Superior" since November 2020, with 12 tankobon volumes released to date. The series not only made it into "Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2023" (This Manga is Amazing! 2023) but also won the "Best Suspense Work Award" at the Japan Expo Award (DARUMA Award) 2023, a major anime and manga event in France. It boasts high praise both in Japan and internationally.

The story is set on a distant future Earth where thick clouds perpetually cover the sky, plunging the world into an almost eternal winter and night. With most plants extinct, humanity faces an existential crisis due to insufficient oxygen. To combat this, humans developed a technology called "Trans-Flower," which involves implanting seeds into the bodies of the dying, transforming them into plants. Civilization is then sustained by the minuscule amounts of oxygen produced by these human-turned-plants.

The protagonist, Toshiro Kamiya, is a young man living in poverty, toiling relentlessly each day to cover taxes, living expenses, and his mother's medication for her mental illness. Yet, the harsh reality slowly strips away his hope. In this world devoid of light, his ultimate choice is to become a "Spirit Flower"—a plant transformed from a human. Will he continue to live as a human, or abandon his suffering and begin a new life as a plant?

Previously, it was announced that Kouki Uchiyama would voice the protagonist Toshiro Kamiya, and Minako Kotobuki would voice Toshiro's childhood friend, Yomiko Horai.

Now, additional characters have been revealed, including Akira Yatsuka (CV: Junya Enoki), Saeko Kano (CV: Aya Endo), and Hitoshi Hiragishi (CV: Kiyomitsu Mizuuchi). Their appearances are set to add even more depth to the world, building anticipation for the unfolding story.

The anime production team includes:

Director: Atsushi Yukawa ("Suzume" Unit Director)

Series Composition: Jin Tanaka ("Oshi no Ko")

Character Design: Robert Sato

Sound Director: Yota Tsuruoka ("A Silent Voice")

Music: Tatsuya Kato ("Dr. Stone")

Visual Development: Ryo Kikuchi ("Virgin Punk")

With such a lineup of highly acclaimed and talented creators, it's clear the production team has high hopes for this series.
