Voice Actor Sumire Uesaka Receives Malicious Death Threats, Agency Involves Police and Reviews Event Appearances

Voice Actor Sumire Uesaka (上坂 すみれ), known for her popular roles as Eli in "Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian," Lum in "Urusei Yatsura," and Agnes Tachyon in "Uma Musume Pretty Derby," has been the target of serious threats.

On the 14th, Uesaka's official website posted an announcement stating that her agency, Voice Kit, recently received multiple extremely malicious threatening emails, which included explicit threats of harm against her.

The official website stated: "Recently, our agency has received multiple extremely malicious threatening emails targeting our artist, Sumire Uesaka, which contain explicit threats of harm." It has been confirmed that these are concrete and malicious murder threats, including statements like "to kidnap and murder her with multiple accomplices before September 27." The emails also claim to know her current residential address and hint at an abduction near her home.

The announcement further explained: "Our agency takes this matter very seriously and, prioritizing the safety of our artist, has promptly consulted with the local police station and filed a damage report. We have requested the police to launch an investigation."

The agency also issued a strong statement: "Our agency will continue to cooperate with the police and relevant authorities to take strict measures, including legal action, against any threats, harm predictions, defamation, and other illegal acts targeting its talent." Finally, the agency addressed fans who have always supported Sumire Uesaka: "We sincerely apologize for causing concern to everyone who always supports Sumire Uesaka due to this incident. We ask for your understanding and continued warm support and encouragement."

Considering the specific nature and danger of the threats, the agency is prioritizing the safety of Sumire Uesaka and related personnel. Regarding scheduled events, performances, and other engagements before September 27, the agency is currently consulting with organizers and relevant parties to carefully evaluate her attendance.

Such incidents are unfortunately not uncommon in Japan. Recently, there have been frequent cases of Voice Actors or idols being threatened in this manner. Agencies often prioritize protecting their artists, and temporarily suspending activities is quite common.

This kind of behavior is truly unacceptable, and many fans are concerned for Uesaka's safety, hoping the culprit behind these threats will be found soon.
