Persona 1 and Persona 2 Remakes on the Horizon? General Producer Says "Absolutely Should Be Done"

The Persona series, the RPG developed and published by Atlus, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. With a legion of fans supporting it through countless titles, everyone is eagerly awaiting the next big release.

During the "Persona 30th Anniversary" special livestream on September 20, Kazuhisa Wada, General Producer of Persona Studio, weighed in on the possibility of remakes for Persona and Persona 2. He stated, "Personally, I absolutely think they should be made," and mentioned that future work schedules would be considered.

This statement came in response to a question from host Neki Matsuzawa during the program. She asked if, with the Persona series hitting its 30-year milestone, player interest in "wanting to replay Persona and Persona 2 now" had also surged.

In response, General Producer Kazuhisa Wada acknowledged that these two titles are currently quite difficult to play. Even players familiar with newer games in the series would struggle to access these older entries. He emphasized that a key purpose of such projects is to ensure these excellent games don't fade into obscurity, exploring ways to keep them alive through remakes or remasters.

Building on this, Wada shared his personal conviction that these titles "absolutely should be made," viewing it as a responsibility for them as IP holders to address.

However, Wada also clarified that launching a new project is no easy feat. As for whether it will happen, he believes fan voices are crucial, urging players, "Please, everyone, give us your full support."

Of course, the original Persona first launched on the PlayStation in 1996, serving as the series' progenitor, with later versions also appearing on PC and PSP.

Meanwhile, Persona 2, split into two versions—Persona 2: Innocent Sin and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment—are both over two decades old. A remake for PSP was released in 2012, but only in Japan, making these two classics quite challenging for players to experience today.

It seems that remaking these two generations would require a significant amount of time to get off the ground. How the market reacts will also be key, so we'll have to wait and see if Atlus officially kicks off the project in the future.
