Illustrator Nagano’s Chiikawa took the world by storm in no time, with its anime adaptation winning over even more fans through its unmistakable style. This year’s theatrical film pushed the franchise even further into the mainstream.
On September 25, the official team announced that new episodes would be put on hold starting October 2. Until the series returns in January 2027, popular episodes from the past will be brought back for revival broadcasts.
The reruns will follow a new format: television broadcasts will air the opening installments of each featured storyline, followed by additional videos on streaming platforms every Friday. The schedule will run from October 2 through December 25 for a total of 25 broadcasts. New episodes are currently set to return in January 2027. Revisiting old favorites is hardly a bad deal, but fans will understandably miss having something new to look forward to each week.
Fans in Japan have shared their excitement over getting another chance to watch beloved older episodes. At the same time, plenty of viewers are feeling a little lonely knowing they will have to wait for new adventures to return. If keeping up with each new episode is part of your routine, prepare for a longer wait.
