One of Just 100 "Raincoat Pikachu" Cards Sells for $8.4 Million, Becoming the Second-Most Expensive Pokemon Card Ever

The market for Pokémon cards has just shattered another record. A 2015 Japanese XY Promo Art Academy card nicknamed "Raincoat Pikachu" recently sold for $8.4 million, officially making it the second-most expensive Pokemon card ever.

According to reports, the card hit the Fanatics auction block on September 28, 2026, drawing 64 bids before selling for $8.4 million with the 20% buyer’s premium included. It also boasts a top PSA 10 Gem Mint grade—and with only 100 copies ever printed worldwide, it is exceptionally rare.

"Raincoat Pikachu" originated from a global art contest held through the Nintendo 3DS game Pokémon Art Academy. Artist Y. Fujishima beat out thousands of entries with a charming illustration of Pikachu wearing a red raincoat and holding an umbrella. The artwork was then printed on 100 physical cards and awarded as prizes, with none ever released through standard retail channels.

The price jump is especially striking. A PSA 10 copy of the same card sold for just $12,600 in July 2024, followed by another sale at $19,200 in June 2025. Its new $8.4 million valuation is roughly 440 times higher.

The all-time record still belongs to Pikachu Illustrator, which sold for $16.4 million in February 2026. Even so, "Raincoat Pikachu" has now secured its place among the world’s most elite Pokemon collectibles.
