"Himouto! Umaru-chan" Returns With a New One-Shot After Eight Years—and Lazy, Lovable Umaru Is Back!

Manga creator Sankakuhead released a brand-new 16-page one-shot based on Himouto! Umaru-chan on YJ+ on October 1. The new chapter is titled Himouto! Umaru-chan 100 (干物妹!うまるちゃん 100).

This marks the series’ first new one-shot in eight years, giving fans a welcome surprise—and fresh hope that the manga could eventually return as an ongoing series.

Himouto! Umaru-chan was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump from 2013 to 2017. It also received two TV anime seasons, released in 2015 and 2017.

In 2025, Sankakuhead revealed the deeply personal inspiration behind the hit series: Umaru was based on his real-life younger sister, who was two years his junior, but she passed away from a rare illness while the manga was still being serialized. He had been reluctant to share the story while the series was ongoing, finally opening up last year to mark both his 20th anniversary as a manga creator and the anime’s 10th anniversary.

The all-new Himouto! Umaru-chan 100 is now available on the YJ+ digital platform. Written and illustrated entirely by Sankakuhead, the one-shot runs for 16 pages. Following the 2018 spin-off Himouto! Umaru-chan G, it is the franchise’s first completely new manga release in roughly eight years.

The title Himouto! Umaru-chan 100 was chosen as part of a campaign celebrating Shueisha’s 100th anniversary.

From midnight on October 1 through 11:59 p.m. on October 10, all 12 volumes of Himouto! Umaru-chan and the single volume of Himouto! Umaru-chan G will be available for just 100 yen each through participating Japanese digital bookstores, including YJ+ and Zebrack.

Between the first brand-new Himouto! Umaru-chan story in roughly eight years and a limited-time sale covering all 13 collected volumes, Umaru fans have plenty to celebrate.
