Shigure Ui (しぐれうい) wears two hats as an illustrator and VTuber. In addition to designing numerous VTubers, she has built a hugely popular channel with more than 2 million subscribers.
She has now officially announced the Shigure Ui Card Game (しぐれういカードゲーム).Alongside the rules and product details, the official announcement revealed one particularly unusual victory condition: becoming "Shigure Ui." Naturally, that has attracted plenty of attention.
The Shigure Ui Card Game is a competitive card game. According to the official rules, players must "use cards featuring highlights from Shigure Ui's various activities to collect Shigure Ui Points. Once you reach 50 points, you become Shigure Ui."
Put simply, players use different cards to meet conditions and earn points. The first player to reach 50 points wins. But terms like "Shigure Ui Points" and "become Shigure Ui" give the rules a delightfully strange twist. The official description even reads: "Collect Shigure Ui Points and prove that you are Shigure Ui!"
Shigure Ui's fan community has long had a mysterious running joke in which everyone declares, "I am Shigure Ui!" There was even an "I Am Shigure Ui! Championship" for fans claiming the title, while an "I Am Shigure Ui! Mask" was released as official merchandise. The gag has become one of the best-known bits of Shigure Ui lore, and now it has officially made its way into the card game.
Players collect Shigure Ui Points through different types of cards, including Content and Event cards, to prove that they are Shigure Ui.
Card Types and Items Required to Play
Each deck set includes everything needed for two players, so it is ready to play straight out of the box.
Shigure Ui Cards and Item Cards
These cards are placed on the field at the start of the game. They represent your personal Shigure Ui and the item she carries. Each player uses one card of each type.
Content Cards
These cards are played in the Content Zone. To use one, turn a number of Shigure Ui Power cards sideways into the resting position equal to the card's cost. Each deck contains 40 Content Cards.
Event Cards
These cards are played during the Event Phase. Fulfill the success condition shown on the card to earn Shigure Ui Points. Each deck contains 10 Event Cards.
Power Cards
These cards contain the power of "Shigure Ui" and are used to pay the costs shown on other cards. Players need 10 Power Cards.
The game's one-of-a-kind rules have sparked plenty of amused reactions on social media, including: "So only the tournament champion gets to call themselves Shigure Ui?" "Does this mean we're about to duel over who the real Shigure Ui is?" and "We can become Shigure Ui...? Weren't we all Shigure Ui already??" Fans are clearly having fun with the concept.
