TOHO has announced that Hibiya Station, which serves Tokyo Metro’s Hibiya and Chiyoda lines, will switch its train departure melody to Akira Ifukube’s iconic Godzilla Theme beginning November 3, Godzilla Day.
Hibiya is home to the headquarters of TOHO, the studio behind the Godzilla franchise for more than 70 years. With Godzilla statues at both Hibiya Godzilla Square and TOHO Cinemas Hibiya, the neighborhood is widely regarded as a mecca for Godzilla fans. The new melody will also help set the mood for this year’s Godzilla Fest.
With support from Tokyo Metro, Hibiya Station—the gateway to the neighborhood—will use Akira Ifukube’s Godzilla Theme as its departure melody, bringing visitors closer to the King of the Monsters from the moment they step onto the platform.
The track has been specially arranged to blend into the station’s everyday soundscape while remaining pleasant even after repeated listens.
The melody will officially debut on November 3, the anniversary of the original Godzilla film’s 1954 theatrical release and the date now celebrated as Godzilla Day.
The franchise’s latest film, Godzilla Minus Zero, will also open in Japan that same day. With anticipation for the movie reaching its peak, the entire Hibiya district is set to become a showcase for the world of Godzilla.

Note: Different versions of the departure melody will be used depending on the train’s direction.
Platform 1 on the Hibiya Line toward Nakameguro and Platform 3 on the Chiyoda Line toward Yoyogi-uehara will use the same melody.
Platform 2 on the Hibiya Line toward Kita-senju and Platform 4 on the Chiyoda Line toward Ayase will use a second shared melody.
