Japanese home furnishings brand NITORI recently announced two new releases for early October: the “Soft and Bouncy Pancake Cushion” and “Soft and Bouncy Taiyaki Cushion.” Modeled after the real desserts and supersized for maximum huggability, both designs quickly became a hot topic on Japanese social media. Fans responded with comments like “I want one so badly” and “Just hugging one would make me happy.”

▼ The announcement also became a trending topic on X in Japan.

Both cushions carefully recreate their respective desserts, from their shapes and golden-brown coloring to the finer details of their textures. They are fun to look at, but even better to hug, with a fluffy, soft, and satisfyingly springy feel.
▼ Soft and Bouncy Pancake Cushion
Measuring approximately 40 × 22 × 23 cm (W × D × H), this cushion turns a fluffy pancake into an irresistibly soft companion. Different materials are used for the pancake and butter sections, giving each part its own distinct texture. Its long shape also allows it to double as a temporary pillow, making it a handy addition to the living room whenever it is time to kick back and relax.

▼ Soft and Bouncy Taiyaki Cushion
The taiyaki version meticulously recreates the snack’s signature fish shape, appetizing golden-brown finish, and even its facial expression. It measures approximately 52 × 30 × 12 cm (W × D × H).
Beyond its eye-catching appearance, its fluffy construction and moderate thickness make it surprisingly practical. The size hits a sweet spot between adorable décor and everyday comfort.

The cushions sparked plenty of discussion on social media following their release, with users posting comments such as “I want one so badly” and “Just hugging one would make me happy.”

NITORI’s food-themed cushion series has now sold more than 4.9 million units, and these two new designs are bringing even more attention to the popular collection.
