Created by manga artist Kota Kawae and serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump, Nue’s Exorcist officially announced on the evening of October 12 that it is getting a TV anime adaptation, scheduled to premiere in summer 2027. A teaser visual, announcement trailer, main cast, and production staff were also revealed. Animation production will be handled by Studio HIBARI, the studio behind the Classroom of the Elite anime series.
Nue’s Exorcist began serialization in 2023 and marks Kota Kawae’s first serialized manga. It was based on the one-shot Nue’s House, published in Weekly Shonen Jump issue 15 of 2022. The series currently has 16 collected volumes.
The story follows Gakuro Yajima, a boy who has been able to see supernatural beings known as spirits since childhood. On his first day of high school, he encounters Nue, a powerful spirit sealed inside the school who happens to be obsessed with human pop culture. Nue wants to prevent humanity’s destruction, but the seal leaves her unable to move freely. She shares her power with Gakuro and begins training him to fight other spirits. Gakuro soon crosses paths with the young exorcist Kazusa Suo, setting the stage for a modern supernatural school battle involving exorcists and spirits determined to claim Nue’s power.
The lead cast has also been confirmed: Gakuro Yajima will be voiced by Kaito Miura, Nue by Saori Onishi, and Kazusa Suo by Sayumi Suzushiro. The production team includes Hiroyuki Hashimoto as director, Hiroshi Seko overseeing series composition, and Shunpei Mochizuki as character designer. Studio HIBARI will produce the animation.
Set to theme music composed by MONACA, the announcement trailer traces Gakuro’s first meeting with Nue and the moment he receives her power. It also offers the first preview of Kaito Miura and Saori Onishi in their respective roles.

Original Creator: Kota Kawae
Thank you all so much for your incredible support, which has finally made a Nue’s Exorcist anime possible! I’m deeply grateful to everyone whose support, help, and encouragement gave us this extraordinary opportunity...!! Back when I was still an office worker, director Hashimoto’s Is the Order a Rabbit? anime helped me through a difficult time. Now that I’m a manga artist, he has reached out to me once again as the director of Nue’s Exorcist. I’m genuinely moved!
Mr. Mochizuki, the animation director, is also an incredible artist! Whenever I receive new character designs, I end up studying them as reference material myself! Then there’s Mr. Miura as Gakuro, Ms. Onishi as Nue, and the rest of this dazzling cast. I’m certain their performances will make these characters feel more vivid and alive than ever! Please continue supporting Nue’s Exorcist!
Gakuro Yajima: Kaito Miura
I was already a huge fan before the audition and had been following the manga, so when my agency told me I had landed the role, I nearly jumped for joy! This is my first time playing the lead in an anime, so I’m extremely nervous. Still, I hope to grow alongside Gakuro and share everything that makes Nue’s Exorcist special with as many people as possible. I look forward to taking this journey with you!
Character Profile
A boy who has been able to see supernatural beings known as spirits since childhood. He is remarkably honest and kindhearted, even volunteering to take over errands that other students have been pressured into doing.
Nue: Saori Onishi
I have the honor of playing Nue...!! When I auditioned, my first impression was that she was a cool, beautiful, and sophisticated woman. But once I began performing the role, I discovered a character with limitless possibilities—someone who could never be summed up in just a few words. It left me happily thinking, “This is going to be quite the challenge!” (laughs)
I hope both longtime manga readers and viewers discovering the story through the anime will get to experience everything that makes Nue so captivating. Team Nue, let’s do this!
Character Profile
A mysterious spirit who has spent 60 years sealed inside a room at North High, waiting for someone to discover her. She is obsessed with pop culture.
Kazusa Suo: Sayumi Suzushiro
Congratulations to Nue’s Exorcist on its anime adaptation! I’m truly thrilled...! Kazusa is perceptive and dependable, always taking the initiative and guiding Gakuro and the others forward. As the story unfolds, her fierce devotion to her friends, her strength when facing spirits, and the adorable side she occasionally reveals all become major parts of her charm. Above all else, Kazusa is unbelievably cool in battle!!
Through my voice, I hope to capture the energy and movement that only animation can deliver, right down to the smallest details of her breathing. I’ll work alongside Yajima and the others to become a first-rate exorcist! I hope you’ll join us!
Character Profile
A second-year student at North High. She is one of the school’s Three Goddesses, a nickname given to three stunning students who turn heads wherever they go despite never being linked to any romantic rumors.
Director: Hiroyuki Hashimoto
I’m Hiroyuki Hashimoto, director of the Nue’s Exorcist anime. What struck me most while reading the manga was just how charming its characters are. Nue, Gakuro, Kazusa, Shiroha, Kyokotsu—every one of them can be both cool and adorable. I even found myself presumptuously wondering, “Did they ask me to direct because this series has so many cute characters?” (laughs)
As we create the anime, I’ll work hard to preserve the atmosphere of the original manga while showcasing the characters’ adorable sides, delivering exciting action, and bringing out everything that makes the source material so appealing. Thank you for your support!
Series Composition: Hiroshi Seko
Reading Nue’s Exorcist, you can really feel that Mr. Kawae genuinely loves the things he is drawing and is having fun telling this story. That enthusiasm is contagious, making the experience just as enjoyable for the reader. Of course, I’m sure the creative process also brings unimaginable struggles and difficulties. Even so, I believe this kind of relationship between a creator and their readers is about as wonderful as it gets.
The Nue’s Exorcist anime team will be giving it everything we have. We hope the series gets your heart racing, keeps you on the edge of your seat, and occasionally has you joining Gakuro in delivering the perfect comeback. Most of all, we hope you enjoy the ride!
The Nue’s Exorcist anime is scheduled to premiere in summer 2027. Fans interested in the series can look forward to more updates from the official channels.
