Veteran Hollywood actor Walter Koenig has died at the age of 90. His representative confirmed the news in a statement, saying Koenig died peacefully at home with his daughter and niece by his side.
Koenig was best known for playing USS Enterprise navigator Pavel Chekov in the landmark sci-fi franchise "Star Trek." He joined "Star Trek: The Original Series" in its second season and remained through its third and final season. Koenig later reprised the role in seven feature films and returned for appearances in other "Star Trek" projects.

Koenig's death means both actors best known for playing Chekov are now gone. Anton Yelchin, who portrayed the younger version of the character in the rebooted "Star Trek" films, died 10 years earlier at just 27. The rising star was killed in a freak accident when his vehicle rolled backward down his driveway and pinned him. His death continues to weigh heavily on fans, loved ones and his "Star Trek" castmates.
