Page Six reports that Keanu Reeves has signed on to star in Netflix's action movie "Maelstrom," replacing original lead Alan Ritchson, who exited the project for undisclosed reasons. The film will be directed by "Black Adam" and "Orphan" filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra, marking his second Netflix feature after "Carry-On."

The "Maelstrom" screenplay was first sold to Warner Bros. in 1993 before eventually landing at Netflix, with "How to Rob a Bank" writer Mark Bianculli now handling the latest draft. Described as "Die Hard in a hurricane," the movie will star Reeves as a federal marshal assigned to protect an arms dealer's fiancée, who is seeking witness protection as she prepares to testify against him.

The story unfolds over a single night as a hurricane cuts off outside communications and prevents reinforcements from arriving. Trapped together, the pair must fend off a relentless assault by the arms dealer's men while battling the natural disaster raging outside.
