Following the acclaimed "The Witcher" trilogy and "Cyberpunk 2077," developer CD Projekt Red has officially confirmed that "Project Polaris," the codename for "The Witcher 4," has entered full production. However, media outlets are already speculating on the game's potential release window.
Industry observers note that "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" began development in 2011 and launched in 2015, a four-year production cycle. Similarly, "Cyberpunk 2077," released in 2020, also took approximately four years from its initial development stages to its eventual release.
Given the increasingly lengthy development cycles in modern gaming, and the lessons learned from "Cyberpunk 2077"'s challenging launch, CDPR is expected to extend "The Witcher 4"'s development timeline to avoid past pitfalls. This could potentially include significant delays.

Based on these considerations, media speculation suggests "The Witcher 4" is most likely to launch in 2028, with a possibility of extending into 2029. This timing also aligns with the anticipated release years for the PlayStation 6 and next-generation Xbox consoles. Considering CDPR's prior experience launching "Cyberpunk 2077" during a console transition period, it's plausible the studio might target a similar window for "The Witcher 4"'s debut.
