Cyberpunk 2077: Unexpected 2.2 Update Announced; Composer Addresses Samurai's Return in Sequel

While details on "Project Orion," the highly anticipated sequel to "Cyberpunk 2077," remain scarce, players are eager to know if V will reprise their role as the protagonist and if the iconic rock band Samurai, a cornerstone of the original game's identity, will make a comeback. Recent comments from the development team offer some intriguing clues.

P.T. Adamczyk, the acclaimed composer behind "Cyberpunk 2077"'s score, recently participated in a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) session. When asked about the possibility of hearing Samurai's album tracks in the upcoming sequel, Adamczyk responded:

Adamczyk stated that he was unsure, noting that currently, there were no plans to produce any new Samurai tracks. He added that it was difficult to make a definitive statement at this time, as more music production commissions might come in later.

Of course, while a precise answer isn't available yet, this doesn't necessarily rule out Samurai's music from the "Cyberpunk 2077" sequel.

In fact, according to the lore of the "Cyberpunk" universe, many of Samurai's songs vanished with the collapse of the Old Net. However, certain album tracks, such as "Blistering Love" and "Chippin' In," were preserved. Should CD Projekt Red decide to incorporate new Samurai songs into the sequel, they might draw inspiration from these existing elements.

Furthermore, based on the development experience of the original "Cyberpunk 2077," original in-game music production only began three years before its release. Given that the sequel is still a considerable time away, players will have to wait and see if the new installment delivers an equally memorable musical experience.

In other news, CD Projekt Red, which had previously confirmed it would no longer issue major updates for "Cyberpunk 2077" to focus on "The Witcher" series' new trilogy, "The Witcher 4," surprisingly announced yesterday that a 2.2 update for "Cyberpunk 2077" is on the way. Further details will be provided during the "REDstreams" broadcast on December 11, 2024.
