Lionsgate announced a reboot of the Christian Bale-led psychological thriller classic "American Psycho" back in October. Nearly two months later, the studio has finally revealed the new lead: Austin Butler, who has recently risen to prominence with roles in "Elvis" and "Dune: Part Two."

Like Bale, Butler will portray the protagonist Patrick Bateman. However, the new film will not be a remake of the 2000 movie but a direct adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis's original novel.
The "American Psycho" reboot will be directed by acclaimed Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino ("Call Me by Your Name"). Scott Z. Burns, known for his collaborations with Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh on films like "The Laundromat" and "Contagion," is set to pen the screenplay. A release date has not yet been announced.
