Director Gareth Edwards, known for 2014's "Godzilla," takes the helm for "Jurassic World: Rebirth," the seventh film in the "Jurassic Park" franchise. Today,
Edwards noted that while Universal has not officially announced "Rebirth" as the start of a new series, he believes there is certainly room for the story to expand. "I can't speak for Universal, but in some ways, it definitely feels like it could be a new trilogy," Edwards stated. "I'm not sure what their plans are, but 'Rebirth' certainly feels like the prelude to a brand new chapter in the series. For me personally, it's a massive love letter to Steven Spielberg and his early work; some sequences remind me of 'Jaws.'" Edwards described "Rebirth" as a "small island survival story."

Edwards also shared the experience he aims to deliver with "Rebirth." He explained that while the original "Jurassic Park" featured groundbreaking CGI for its time, he felt the franchise later "got lost in the visual spectacle arms race." He pointed out that the original "Jurassic Park" had only "dozens of visual effects shots, yet it was such a powerful film." Therefore, "Rebirth" is dedicated to "reclaiming those teasing techniques and ideas" and using them to "create suspense and tension that keeps you glued to the screen." Edwards concluded, "I want to create the feeling I marveled at these films when I was young."

"Rebirth" features a screenplay penned by David Koepp, who wrote the first two "Jurassic Park" films. The producing team from the "Jurassic World" trilogy, Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley, return, with Steven Spielberg, director of the first two installments, also continuing as executive producer.
The cast for "Rebirth" includes a host of new faces: Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Rupert Friend, Jonathan Bailey, Luna Blaise, Ed Skrein, and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. Previous cast members from the first six films, such as Sam Neill and Chris Pratt, will not be returning.

The official plot synopsis reveals that the story is set five years after the events of "Jurassic World: Dominion." At this time, Earth's ecology is largely unsuitable for dinosaurs, but the remaining dinosaurs have settled in isolated equatorial environments where the climate closely resembles prehistoric Earth. Within this tropical biosphere, three of the largest dinosaur species contain key elements in their bodies that are crucial for creating a drug that could save human lives.
Johansson portrays Zora Bennett, a covert operations specialist hired to lead a team to extract DNA from these three dinosaur species. Ali plays Duncan Kincaid, Zora's partner, while Bailey takes on the role of paleontologist Henry Loomis. Friend is cast as Martin Krebs, the representative of the pharmaceutical group funding the operation.
During their mission, they encounter a civilian family whose expedition boat capsized after an attack by aquatic dinosaurs, leaving them stranded alongside Johansson's team on a treacherous island that has been lost to public view for decades. "Rebirth" is slated for a North American release on July 2, 2025.
