Naughty Dog's "The Last of Us Part II" Arrives on PC in April 2025: Mandatory PSN Account Sparks Renewed Outcry

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has announced that the highly anticipated and critically acclaimed "The Last of Us Part II" will officially launch on PC platforms, including Steam and Epic Games Store, on April 3, 2025. This news arrives alongside the recently confirmed premiere date for the second season of the live-action video game adaptation, "The Last of Us" TV series.

However, following similar requirements for "Helldivers 2" and "Concord," Sony Interactive Entertainment is once again mandating that players link a PlayStation Network (PSN) account to play the game. This announcement has, predictably, reignited significant dissatisfaction within the PC gaming community.

The issue of mandatory PSN linking has been a recurring point of contention. Beyond adding an unnecessary operational step for players, the service remains unavailable in numerous countries and regions. When the popular multiplayer title "Helldivers 2" initially announced its mandatory PSN requirement, it triggered a strong backlash. Sony Interactive Entertainment subsequently chose to retract that restriction, promising to better listen to PC player feedback. However, the current policy for "The Last of Us Part II" clearly indicates that players do not feel the company has genuinely "listened."

In fact, the PC release of "God of War: Ragnarök" also faced controversy due to PSN account restrictions. One player even developed a mod to bypass this requirement, though it was swiftly taken down over concerns about potential legal risks. These precedents underscore how Sony's PSN account policy has consistently been a flashpoint of conflict between players and the company.

Evidently, the PC version of "The Last of Us Part II" is repeating these past mistakes, leading players to question whether Sony has truly learned its lesson from previous controversies.
