“Helldivers” Live-Action Film in the Works; Arrowhead Game Studios Head Weighs In on Involvement

PlayStation recently announced at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that its multiplayer shooter game, "Helldivers," will be adapted into a live-action film for the big screen. While details remain scarce, players have been curious whether Arrowhead Game Studios, the developer behind the popular video game, would be involved in the film's production.

In response to fan inquiries, Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt recently confirmed that the development team will indeed participate in the film project, though the exact extent of their involvement is yet to be determined.

"Simply put, yes. But the details remain to be seen," Johan Pilestedt added. "After all, we're not Hollywood professionals; we don't fully understand film production or what it entails. Therefore, we likely won't have, nor expect to have, final decision-making power."

In addition to "Helldivers," PlayStation also confirmed at CES 2025 that "Ghost of Tsushima" and "Horizon Zero Dawn" would be adapted into a Japanese animated series and a live-action film, respectively.

The "Ghost of Tsushima" adaptation will be based on its multiplayer mode, "Ghost of Tsushima: Legends," with Takashi Mizuno directing, Gen Urobuchi handling story composition, and Kamikaze Douga producing the animation. For "Horizon Zero Dawn," only its collaboration with Columbia Pictures has been confirmed, with no further details available at this time.

Separately, the live-action film adaptation of PlayStation's "Until Dawn" recently released its first behind-the-scenes featurette. Director David F. Sandberg, known for the "Shazam!" series, and screenwriter Gary Dauberman, who penned the "Annabelle" trilogy, discussed the film's production concepts in the featurette.
