Vocal Duo ClariS Transforms into a Trio, Welcoming New Members for a Brand New Chapter!

Get ready for a major shake-up in the J-pop scene! ClariS, the iconic female vocal duo known for belting out hit anime theme songs like "Connect" (from Puella Magi Madoka Magica), "ALIVE" (from Lycoris Recoil), and "Masquerade" (from Shadows House Season 2), is officially expanding!

After a previous member change and Karen's departure last October, the group made a huge announcement today (January 25) at the massive anime song event "LisAni! LIVE 2025." They're officially welcoming two new members, Eri and Anna, transforming into a trio and kicking off an exciting new phase!

ClariS originally started with two junior high school girls from Hokkaido, Clara and Aris. Back in 2009, they were active as a doujin group called "Alice☆Clara" on Niconico Douga. They caught the eye of anime music magazine LisAni!, which not only featured them but also included a CD of their original songs with the magazine, quickly grabbing public attention.

They officially debuted with the single "Irony," which was featured as the theme song for the anime My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute! Their debut as junior high students, a rare occurrence for new artists, sparked considerable buzz. However, in 2014, Aris announced her graduation from ClariS due to academic commitments.

Later, Karen joined the group, having met Clara at music school. Initially, ClariS performed with their faces partially obscured by veils, only revealing their full faces to the public in 2017. But in September 2024, Karen announced her graduation from ClariS after her final performance in November, citing marriage. This left Clara as the sole member who has been with the group since its debut.

At today's "LisAni! LIVE 2025," the brand-new trio made their first appearance and dropped the bombshell news. Clara shared, "From today, ClariS officially welcomes two new members, Eri and Anna, and will continue our activities as a new trio. We're excited to bring you unique music that only the three of us can create, so please look forward to it!"

During the performance, they also debuted their new song "Trigger," symbolizing the trio's determination as they embark on this third chapter. The crowd erupted in cheers, celebrating the exciting new era.

This marks the first time ClariS has performed as a trio since their formation. While many fans still hold fond memories of Aris and Karen, Clara, the enduring heart of the group, is confident that this third chapter of ClariS will bring a fresh new sound. Fans, get ready to dive into their exciting new music!
