While fans of Yoshihiro Togashi's Hunter x Hunter are no strangers to its infamous hiatus schedule, the franchise's stage adaptations are charging full steam ahead. Following the last installment, which covered the fan-favorite "Yorknew City Arc," the curtains are set to rise on the third play: the "Greed Island Arc."
On February 17, the production officially unveiled the cast in full costume, and the internet is already buzzing. The casting of former Morning Musume leader Ai Takahashi as Biscuit Krueger has drawn widespread acclaim from fans, who are calling it a perfect match.
Stage adaptations like this bring iconic manga arcs to life, offering a unique theatrical experience that stands apart from the anime.
Picking up where the second play left off, the story follows Gon and Killua as they bid on the legendary, Hunter-exclusive game "Greed Island" in their search for clues about Gon's father, Ging. Inside the game, they face off against formidable opponents like the bomber Genthru, veteran player Tsezguerra, and the powerful Hunter Goreinu. Along their perilous journey, they meet the enigmatic Biscuit Krueger, who takes them under her wing for some intense training. As the stakes get higher, they push forward to clear the game and hopefully find the answers they seek.
The casting of Ai Takahashi as Biscuit has stolen the spotlight. Since graduating from Morning Musume and getting married, Takahashi has focused more on her stage career. When the costume photos dropped, her personal Instagram exploded with comments from ecstatic fans. "This is amazing!" one wrote, while another added, "It's a perfect recreation, I can't wait!" The sentiment was universal: "She's so perfect for the role!" and "The blonde pigtails are adorable!" Of course, the big question on everyone's mind was, "Wait, does this mean Ai-chan will also transform into her massive, muscular form?" Takahashi has promised to give her all to deliver a spectacular performance.
The production has assembled a cast of seasoned stage actors and worked closely with Shueisha to supervise the costume designs, ensuring every detail captures the magic of the original work and lives up to the high standards set by the previous plays.
With all the main character visuals now released, take a look and see if they match your imagination!
