Warner Bros. Games Cancels 'Wonder Woman' Title, Shutters Monolith Productions in Major DC Shake-Up

Warner Bros. Games has unexpectedly announced the cancellation of the highly anticipated "Wonder Woman" game and is shutting down its 31-year-old developer, Monolith Productions, in a move that has shocked the industry.

The "Wonder Woman" game was first announced at The Game Awards in 2021 and was being developed by Monolith Productions, the acclaimed studio behind titles like "Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor" and "Middle-earth: Shadow of War."

Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier shared details on the game's troubled development:

Meanwhile, DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran have revealed that Rocksteady Studios is gearing up for a new DC video game project, a development that has captured widespread attention.

Gunn and Safran stated they have partnered with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment's (WBIE) Rocksteady Studios, as well as NetherRealm Studios—the developer of the "Mortal Kombat" series—to integrate new games into Gunn's planned DC Universe (DCU). The initiative aims to create a shared universe that integrates film, television, and animation.
