Naughty Dog's "Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet" Reportedly Takes Cues From "Elden Ring," Promising Vastly Expanded Exploration

Naughty Dog unveiled its brand-new IP, "Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet," at The Game Awards 2024, touting it as the studio's most creative and ambitious project to date. Recent industry whispers suggest the game's design may draw significant inspiration from "Elden Ring," potentially offering unprecedented levels of exploration and player freedom.

While Naughty Dog's acclaimed franchises, such as "Uncharted" and "The Last of Us," have introduced more open exploration zones in their latest installments, they have largely maintained a linear narrative structure. "Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet" is poised to break from this tradition, pushing boundaries to deliver a far more open-ended gameplay experience.

According to recent industry rumors shared by MinnMax founder Ben Hanson, the upcoming title's approach to open-world exploration is heavily influenced by "Elden Ring," emphasizing player agency in choosing their path and piecing together narrative details through discovery.

As per the previously released official synopsis, "Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet" is set thousands of years in the future. Players will step into the shoes of bounty hunter Jordan A. Mun, who finds herself stranded on Sempiria, a distant planet that has been cut off from all external contact for centuries. Jordan A. Mun must leverage her intellect and skills to navigate this enigmatic world and find a way off the planet.

The protagonist, Jordan A. Mun, is portrayed by 28-year-old actress Tati Gabrielle, known for her roles in "You" Season 3 and the "Uncharted" film adaptation.

This narrative approach bears a resemblance to "Elden Ring," where the open-world design allows players to gradually uncover the world's lore rather than being driven by a linear story progression. If "Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet" indeed adopts a similar design philosophy, it could signal a significant structural transformation for Naughty Dog.

Furthermore, Naughty Dog President Neil Druckmann has previously revealed that "Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet" draws design inspiration from two iconic Japanese sci-fi anime: "Akira" and "Cowboy Bebop." These influences are expected to manifest not only in the game's nostalgic sci-fi aesthetic but also in a unique blend of retro and modern elements, shaping its distinctive atmosphere and visual tone.
