Released by the HOBBY Division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd., the 1/144 scale Gunpla "HG (High Grade)" series, known for its most diverse range of mobile suits, has officially announced the latest product from the anime "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX", the "HG 1/144 Char's Custom Zaku (GQ)", scheduled for release in December 2025.
The MS-06S Char's Custom Zaku appearing in "GQuuuuuuX" is fundamentally the same in its setting as the original Char's Custom Zaku II from "Mobile Suit Gundam," being a custom machine for the Principality of Zeon's ace pilot, the "Red Comet" Char Aznable, adjusted from a standard Zaku. He painted the mobile suit in his preferred red color scheme, and the head adopted the commander-type specifications with a blade antenna. While its thrust was 30% higher than standard specifications, Char's piloting skills defied common sense, making it appear to others as if its speed had increased threefold. However, in the "GQuuuuuuX" timeline, due to Char successfully seizing a Gundam, the Zaku had almost no combat appearances in the series.
The "HG 1/144 Char's Custom Zaku (GQ)" faithfully recreates Ikuto Yamashita's design style, which blends real-world industrial aesthetics with sci-fi elements. Compared to the original, it features unique designs such as thigh armor composed of four spherical fuel tanks and large thrusters directly mounted on the rear of the legs. The kit utilizes new parts and new molding colors to reproduce the characteristic red color scheme of Char's custom machine, the head with a blade antenna, and shoulder armor, shoulder shield, and fuel tank designs that differ from the Zaku Police.
Both the monocular camera on the head and the connection point of the shoulder shield feature movable mechanisms. The torso and limbs also boast highly flexible articulated joint designs, allowing it to be posed in dynamic and powerful actions with weapons such as the Zaku Machine Gun, Heat Hawk, and the newly molded Zaku Bazooka.
