Seiko Drops Two Limited-Edition "Violet Evergarden" Mechanical Watches with Elegant, World-Inspired Designs

Japanese watch giant SEIKO is no stranger to the anime collab game, having dropped some seriously popular timepieces with various fan-favorite IPs.

Now, they're teaming up for a third time with the beloved Kyoto Animation series, Violet Evergarden, to release two new limited-edition mechanical watches. Drawing inspiration from the anime's world and color palette, each model is limited to just 2,000 pieces. Priced at ¥82,280, the watches are slated for a late June 2025 release and are currently up for pre-order on the PREMICO website.

Violet Evergarden is based on the award-winning light novel of the same name—the only work in a decade to win the grand prize at the Kyoto Animation Awards. The franchise includes a TV series and a feature film. The movie was particularly significant as it was the first animated feature released by Kyoto Animation following the tragic arson attack on the studio. Its poignant story has captivated fans worldwide, making it one of KyoAni's most celebrated recent works.

This marks the third collaboration between the two brands. Following the second release, SEIKO is once again opting for a mechanical movement. These automatic, self-winding timepieces don't require battery changes, a feature beloved by watch aficionados.

The designs for these two new watches are inspired by specific episodes from the Violet Evergarden TV anime—Episode 5 and Episode 7. Each timepiece incorporates iconic scenes, beautifully capturing the series' stunning world.

▼ Episode 5 Model

Inspired by the fifth episode, this watch tells the story of Princess Charlotte and Prince Damian, who fall in love through a series of public love letters. The dial depicts the moonlit garden where they agreed to meet, featuring details like the night sky and a crescent moon. The design of the hands even incorporates the pivotal letter that reads, "I'll wait for you in the moonlit garden tonight."

The second hand is inspired by the couple's correspondence, while the case back features subtle details of a white camellia and a red rose. The deep blue leather strap with red stitching completes the look, symbolizing royal romance and the flutter of a new love.

▼ Episode 7 Model

This model is based on Episode 7, which follows the playwright Oscar as he processes the loss of his daughter with Violet's help, rediscovering his passion for writing and his emotions. The dial evokes an autumn lake, with shimmering light and a color gradient that creates a sense of deep emotion. The second hand is designed after the parasol Oscar gives Violet, a symbol of his love and memory for his daughter.

The deep brown leather strap is inspired by the boots Violet wears while gracefully leaping across fallen leaves on the water. On the case back, you'll find an engraving of the swing from Oscar's cherished memories with his daughter.

Both collaboration watches feature a mechanical design, highlighted by an "open-heart" window on the dial and a transparent case back. These signature elements of mechanical timepieces let you admire the intricate inner workings of the gears, adding a premium touch.

The attention to detail extends beyond the watch itself to the exquisite packaging. Each timepiece comes in a special collector's box designed to look like Violet's travel trunk, making you feel like you're stepping right into her world. The interior is printed with memorable scenes from the series, with each model featuring artwork from its corresponding episode. To top it off, the warranty card is shaped like a letter and comes with a wax seal, giving you the feeling of receiving a personal message from Violet herself—talk about a complete experience!
