Academy Award-winning director Ang Lee's highly anticipated Bruce Lee biopic has been a major focus for fans, but foreign media outlet World of Reel recently reported that the project is facing budget control difficulties and is unlikely to begin production in the short term. This unexpected opening in Lee's schedule has allowed him to pivot to another film, "Old Gold Mountain." Set during the twilight of the American Gold Rush, the film will chronicle the journey of two orphaned immigrants.

"Old Gold Mountain" is an adaptation of Chinese-American author C. Pam Zhang's debut novel, "How Much of These Hills Is Gold," published five years ago. The book was initially slated for a television series adaptation, but with Ang Lee's involvement, plans shifted to a feature film. Principal photography is expected to commence in Northern California this August. Three-time Oscar winner Emmanuel Lubezki, acclaimed for his cinematography on "Birdman" and "The Revenant," has joined the project as director of photography. The screenplay was penned by Hansol Jung, a Korean-American writer known for her work on the Apple TV+ series "Pachinko."
