This Traveler's Obsession Is Next Level! X User Paints Japan Red, Visiting 8,000 Spots in Five Years

Ask most people about their hobbies, and "I love to travel!" is a pretty common answer. Whether it's jetting off abroad or exploring local gems, soaking in different cultures and landscapes is definitely one of life's great pleasures.

But recently, a Japanese travel enthusiast on X shared his mind-blowing travel log: he's visited an incredible 8,000 different locations across Japan in just five years, literally turning his Google Maps red. Naturally, the internet is losing its collective mind.

The X user posted a screenshot of his Google Maps activity, showing every single place he's ever been. On the left, you see his Google Photos location data, and on the right, Google Maps' "Timeline" feature.

These records span from his university days right up to his current job, accumulated over the past five years. He often pulls out this map when introducing himself and saying "I love to travel," and it always leaves people speechless. The entire map of Japan, from Hokkaido to Okinawa, is practically covered in red dots. Only the very northern tip of Hokkaido still shows a bit of land – it's basically "Japan Travel Achievement Unlocked" in real life.

While it doesn't mean he's taken 8,000 separate trips, simply visiting 8,000 locations is astonishing enough – and that number even includes spots outside Japan! It's so many that Google Maps can't even fully render them all. This level of wanderlust is absolutely no joke.

For this X user, travel isn't just a hobby; it's practically his daily life, with everything else taking a backseat. He also shared his journey and philosophy on hitting the road.

Of course, many wondered how he funded all this travel, speculating if his parents were wealthy.

He explained that during his university years, he worked just enough part-time jobs each year to stay right below the income threshold that would affect his parents' tax deductions, while also keeping his living expenses to an absolute minimum. He clarified that his family is just an ordinary one, and he's incredibly grateful to his parents for covering his tuition fees.

He said his interest in travel started young, but it wasn't until he moved to Kyoto for university that he truly gained the freedom to explore. The convenient location and a well-managed academic schedule kicked off his "study hard, travel harder" lifestyle. Along the way, he meticulously used Google Maps' "Timeline" feature to record every single stop, from scenic spots to train stations and rest areas.

Balancing academics, part-time jobs, and travel, he adopted a "when it's time to hustle, hustle; when it's time to travel, travel" strategy. During university, he juggled two regular part-time jobs and took on numerous temporary gigs, yet still managed to graduate on time with all his credits – no retakes! When asked about his most insane itinerary, he recounted: "The day I finished my intensive driving course, I immediately took an overnight bus to the Ogasawara Islands, then directly transferred to Aogashima (dubbed Japan's most remote island), and from there, headed home to Kitakyushu to pick up my driver's license."

The X user concluded, "These past five years, I've worked my butt off and traveled relentlessly, but Japan still has so many incredible places to see. It truly is an amazing country." Compared to the average "I love to travel" enthusiast, this guy is definitely in a league of his own – an emperor-tier traveler, if you will!
