Unlike Taiwan, Father's Day in Japan, much of Europe, the US, and other parts of Asia falls on the third Sunday of June. This past Father's Day (June 15), countless companies rolled out heartwarming posts on X. But one unexpected player's campaign seems to have struck out: the official account of Japan's professional baseball team, the Yomiuri Giants.

The Yomiuri Giants' posts, themed "#父とジャイアンツ" (#DadAndGiants), featured six illustrated tweets inviting fans to share memories of watching Giants games with their fathers. However, one particular post unexpectedly triggered a wave of "PTSD" among netizens, all thanks to its tagline: "Dad's mood today? Totally depends on the Giants' performance" (父のキゲンは巨人が決めている).
The illustration showed a dad at home, fists clenched, beaming at the TV – clearly a scene of the Giants leading or winning. At first glance, it's a relatable "Yep, that's my dad!" moment. But for many, their memories weren't quite so rosy.
The comment section instantly transformed into a full-blown complaint convention. "When the Giants lost, my dad would take it out on the family," one user griped. Another chimed in, "Even if the family wanted to watch something else, the remote was always glued to my dad's hand, tuned to the Giants game." The relatable rants just kept coming.
The post was clearly aiming for heartwarming nostalgia about "those years watching baseball with Dad." Instead, it unearthed memories of "Dad blowing up when the Giants lost, making everyone miserable" and "Giants games hogging the TV, leaving no other shows for the family."

And it wasn't just about the Yomiuri Giants. Many users confessed that their baseball-loving dads' moods were constantly dictated by their team's performance, often leading to family outbursts. Not exactly prime material for "beautiful memories."

One netizen even posted a satirical edit, suggesting that while celebrating memories of watching games with Dad is fine, using "Dad's mood today? Totally depends on the Giants' performance" might not conjure the best recollections. After all, everyone's mind immediately jumps to a furious dad after a crushing defeat.

Even in the "Doraemon" manga, there's a scene where Nobita's usually gentle dad gets absolutely fuming while watching a baseball game – and, of course, it's the Giants playing!

Many fans admitted that while their childhood memories of watching games with their fathers were indeed cherished, the line "Dad's mood is decided by the Giants" hit super close to home – for better or worse.
This marketing campaign was likely intended to evoke warm nostalgia, but it clearly triggered some serious "PTSD" instead. Guess even a popular team's epic marketing fail can generate massive buzz. Talk about a "Giants phenomenon," huh?
