Deadline exclusively reported today that Paramount Pictures has acquired the production rights for "The Romantic," an upcoming romantic comedy. The screenplay comes from the writing duo Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont, known for "Leap Year" and "Made of Honour." Ryan Reynolds' production company, Maximum Effort, will co-produce the film alongside Bautista's Dogbone Entertainment.

Bautista is set to star as the protagonist, a bestselling romance novelist who writes under the female pseudonym Francine London. Francine harbors a massive secret: she is, in fact, a 6-foot-3-inch man named Ed Schwenk. When Ed's identity is questioned, he is forced to hire an unpredictable woman to impersonate Francine at a romance novel convention. Simultaneously, Ed must evade a female journalist who despises romance novels and is hot on his trail.
"The Romantic" marks a dream come true for Bautista, who has previously expressed his desire to star in a romantic comedy.
